The drones mount to a common stock, using our own miniature drone reeds.

These can be stopped, by tapping the drone top for ease of tuning. They give a rich stable sound, and thread into the drone.

The reeds are matched to the A440 or Bb, 466 chanters.

Roddy,

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I used to play
great highland pipes yet after wisdom tooth extraction I suffered nerve
damage it left me unable to play. I spent three and a half years learning a
instrument that I couldn't play. I learned about smallpipes and in my search
found your website.
I recently received my custom smallpipes and they are fantastic! They
play beautifully and look incredible. When I unpacked them and played my
first tune it brought a tear to my eye. I am able to play the pipes again!
You have given me a beautiful set of pipes to continue my passion. I cannot
express to you the gratitude I have for your skill.  I could have purchased
any smallpipes but your skill and love come through in the gorgeous
instruments you design. The pipes you have made me will become a family
heirloom and I again thank you tremendously.  You will be known for many
generations as  THE BEST Pipe maker of your day. Again thank you for sharing
your gift and giving me the ability to be a piper again.

Cheers!

Roddy,

My cocobolo small-pipes arrived today, and may I say...Holy SMOKE!! I don't know whether to play these pipes or put them in the Smithsonian! I'm almost in tears looking at this wonderful specimen of craftsmanship. Flawless.

You never know what you'll get with Buckeye, but man did these turn out nice! And, more importantly, they sound magnificent! Thank you so much.

Aye yours,

John Wood

Dear Roddy:

Just a quick note to let you know that I really am enjoying your new Studio Pipes! As you know, I am very hard to please, and I've owned and been disappointed in one way or another by just about every type of smallpipe or practice pipe out there. But if I were stuck on desert island and were allowed to have only one smallpipe with me, the Studio Pipes would be it. Simply put, I just find them to be a real pleasure to play. They have a solid, robust sound -- not that practice-chanter-y sound that drives me nuts, and no weird buzzing or tuning issues, yet quiet enough for late-night practice with light sleepers in the house. Plus they are amazingly maintenance- and fuss-free: Pick them up anytime, anywhere and they play beautifully. Truly, during the past 8 weeks or so of my ownership, I have played them every day, at least once a day; that's definitely a record for me.

Congratulations on this great innovation!

My best,

Thom Moore
